ReThinking College

and Remember – win-win partnerships among parents, self advocates and educational institutions create opportunities that would otherwise not be possible. Start the conversation in your community!

What are your child’s dreams for the future?

Even if high school graduation is years away, its wise for your teen to look at options so he or she can make informed choices. Consider visiting several programs and asking about ways your child can broaden interests and develop skills to prepare for a CTP experience and eventual employment.

Even if your son or daughter is going to special school or vocational training programme, it’s time for your son or daughter to join the options of open schooling so he or she can pass basic, secondary or higher secondary classes through open schooling.

So what if you have spent complete life in medical rehabilitation but its opportunity even at the age of 40-45 your son or daughter can fulfil the dream to have study and to be known as a literate person.

Have you considered college as a possibility?

Do you know any young people with intellectual disabilities who are enrolled in a college program?

What are your thoughts as you begin to think about the possibilities?

We’d love to hear from you in the comments!

Want to spread the word about college programs for students with ID?

In the year 2001 at Japan, while representing India, Manovikas has proposed vocational education and employment for people with disabilities to bring specific change in their life. After hard work and research by Manovikas the mini-Management and other skill development courses for adults with mentally and intellectually underdeveloped have been started. By the year 2010, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) had provided the status of Manovikas community college. To create training lab, course contents and dissemination of information the Hans Foundation, Home of Hope Inc, VSO and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Institute for Physically Handicapped have given commendable economic support.
