Manovikas Institute for Higher Education

Although many think it is not, college is a possibility for those students with intellectual disabilities. The widespread
development programme is a high priority for the country and Manovikas believe that all students with intellectual disabilities should have the opportunity to learn at a high level college course.

Manovikas Institute of Higher Education is the first college in the country for those with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. The college has begun allowing those with these disabilities to be admitted to the courses below.

  • Hospitality Training
  • Retail Training
  • Basic Business
  • Office Attendant
  • Computer Application
  • Health and Beauty

The duration of these courses can range from between a minimum of six months to a maximum of two years, however if the student wishes to reach for a diploma programme the course will range from between a minimum of one year and a maximum of three years.

These programmes are designed for those with intellectual disabilities therefore the student may be required to complete an assessment which will determine the applicants cognitive process, behavioural profile, multiple intelligence and aptitude. The disabilities which these things would be taken into consideration at the eligibility process are autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, multiple disabilities or learning disabilities/slow learners.

Students who apply should be between the ages of 16 and 35 and should be able to communicate in Hindi, English or even both languages. It is also preferred that the students applying will have attended a special school up to a secondary level.

College is a huge step for anyone, regardless of disabilities, so you must consider what your child's dreams are for their
future. Even if it is very early stages in your child's education and if high school graduation is far in the distance, it is important to begin exploring all the possibilities early on and considering higher education. If you are worried that your child hasn't reached an appropriate education level to consider college, then consider enrolling them in an open schooling course so that they can get where they want to be.

Worried about fees? Students who are under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) will receive 100% free ship, other students will also receive the opportunity of concession in programme fees on merit basis.
