More than 3 million people in India have some form of Intellectual disability, Autism spectrum disorder, Specific learning disabilities and high support needs. Manovikas eGYANSHALA is using the umbrella term “Persons with Intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)” for the target students.
Parents of IDD are struggling to cope with the closure of
schools; their challenges are more complex, intense and demanding for families.
Families and their children with disabilities need both teachers and schools to
make a commitment to develop and provide materials as well as the means for
parents to help their children learn while at home. The Special Educators,
Speech Therapist, Psychologists, Caregivers will help them online in this critical
situation. Manovikas eGYANSHALA to consider redeploying this cohort of the workforce,
with appropriate safeguards, to work online with family and individuals.
Manovikas eGYANSHALA provides a special opportunity for the loving ONLINE environment to the students with IDD living at home during the COVID-19 outbreak in India. The project offers special education, different therapies through instructional guidance and interventions, as well as sports, music, dance, love, peace and joyful atmosphere through ‘Moodle app’. The family and individual with IDD can learn wherever they are, whenever they want, and a minimum of three hours of face to face interactive sessions with innovative solutions.
While staying at home in COVID-19 lockdown, Manovikas eGYANSHALA has concerns about child's wellbeing, personal and social care, family and parents support, special education support, psychological and behavioural intervention, skill development, virtual counselling, speech therapy etc..
Manovikas eGYANSHALA was started after the success of Manovikas’s SMILE Project is due to its uniqueness. The Smile Project is the innovative program brought to you by the Home of Hope International Youth Chapter, which was launched on January 27, 2019, under the leadership of 10-year-old Amora Singh. The online session is organised by Amora among the special children of Manovikas in their multimedia room.
This online session of MANOVIKAS eGYANSHALA and SMILE collaboration provide activities such as singing, dancing, painting music, etc. for with the students with special needs, which make the student feel like an online or cyber school program in a safe, comfortable the environment in their own home.
