Although people with Down syndrome experience learning difficulties that lead to delays in many areas of development, not all areas are affected equally. If we give opportunities for inclusive living with the commitment to \u201cWith Us Not For Us\u201d, Persons with Down syndrome can make a big difference in our society.
On March 21, Manovikas Charitable Society, associated with World Down Syndrome Day 2023, Theme \u201cWith Us Not For Us\u201d.
On the occasion of World Down Syndrome Day, the Manovikas Charitable Society, in association with the State Nodal Agency Center (SNAC) of the National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Disabilities, and Multiple Disabilities under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt of India and CBSM (Chandra Bhushan Singh Memorial Speech & Hearing Institute), Dwarka, Delhi are celebrating Mega events where about 500 participants, including persons with disabilities, showcase their abilities.
Creating awareness of communication skills, Basic sign language, Easyread communication for intellectual and developmental disabilities, Career guidance on higher education and skill training after school, Oral hygiene, and Health Care Opportunities to become Self-advocates etc., help persons with Down syndrome lead to inclusive living in the society.<\/p>

Let\u2019s plan for each child with Down syndrome to go to school and provide visual and auditory accommodations for classroom instruction and physical, occupational, and speech therapies. They may need extra time and assistance with classwork.
Students with Down syndrome have a range of abilities. They can learn and develop new skills throughout their lives but reach goals simultaneously. Remember to focus on the individual and learn firsthand about their capabilities and special needs.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Self Advocate<\/a><\/h3>

A 24-year-old Self Advocate Adya Verma, before COVID-19, was working at Springdales School as a teacher\u2019s assistant on an ad-hoc basis. She did her schooling from nursery to class 9 in an inclusive set-up from Springdales School, Pusa Road, Delhi. Afterwards, she pursued class 10 and class 12 from NIOS. During her studies, she participated in Bocci, Race, Badminton and Shot-put games held by Special Olympics and won many medals. \nShe is a Member of the Self Advocacy team \u201cManbhavan\u201d at Manovikas, helping develop Easy Read Documents and sharing the visions in many seminars and workshops.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Her parents, school teachers and instructors have poured out time and resources to see her progress. Recently, she accomplished Sangeet Visharad Pratham Khand (IV Year), organised by Pracheen Kala, which is recognised on global, national, regional and local levels.
