The easy-read information is for some people who have:

  • an Intellectual and developmental disability (IDD), 

  • a specific learning disability (SLD), 

  • an autism spectrum disorder (ASD)

  • a substantial condition of mental behaviour/mental illness

  • a hearing impairment, deaf, hard of hearing, speech and language disability

  • low literacy levels

  • are elderly, etc.

Some people will be able to read Easy Read information independently. For others, they will require someone to facilitate the communication.

Commitment to Equality

Section 40 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 (RPD Act) ensures the standards of accessibility for information and communications. 

We need to take measures and ensure all contents available in audio, print and electronic media are in an accessible format (section 42, RPD Act).  Accessibility norms are mandatory observance, and all establishments plan and adhere to the rules.

Who should join this Workshop on Cognitively Accessible “Easy Read” Communication?

This workshop is suitable for establishments/individuals that need to ensure the standards of accessibility for information and communications for persons with disabilities: 

All private establishments: schools, colleges, universities, companies, firms, Hospitals, NGOs, DPOs, Trusts, Private Limited companies, factories etc.

All Government establishments: Government company, Public sector undertaking, Department of the Government, Municipal corporation, Government aided authority etc. and 

All individuals: Professionals and Personales registered under the Rehabilitation Council of India, Educators, Teachers, Therapists, Doctors, Creative Designers, Students in Special Education, etc.

Who would like to make their communication more inclusive and accessible,

  • who are involved in producing information,

  • who design and create any kind of document,

  • who work in public or in-house communications.

This international workshop is approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India, organised by Manovikas.

Dates and Duration of the Workshop:

Friday to Sunday, 16 to 18 September 2022, 3 Days 

From 11:00 am to 6:00 pm IST

Mode: Online on Zoom

Participants will receive 30 CRE points.
