WDSD EVENTS

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is a day dedicated to all individuals with Down syndrome. Trisomy 21 is the clinical way of saying Down syndrome, which is the third copy on the 21st chromosome. In a person without Down syndrome, there are 46 chromosomes in the human body. Individuals with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome; we have 47.
The date for WDSD is set on the 21st day of the 3rd month as a representation of the extra copy of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome that people with Down syndrome are born with.

Manovikas Family Support in organising events, workshops and opportunities for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities to make their choice and have their voices heard.

Experts' Testimonials of WDSD-2021

"Persons with Down Syndrome are so affectionate, so loving, so outgoing that we must teach them how to protect themselves from predators. This is something very important for this group of children because these children are so precious. I saw this young girl named Vilina as a CEO of a company that has down syndrome. We must share these examples also."

Former Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, GOI
