V.R.P. Sheilaja Rao is a highly respected and accomplished figure in special education, with over three decades of experience dedicated to empowering and including individuals with intellectual disabilities. As the Former Head of the Department of Special Education at the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disability (NIEPID), she has played a pivotal role in shaping special education programs and policies across India.
Current Role:
Since September 2022, Sheilaja Rao has served as an Honorary Consultant in Special and Remedial Education at Ambika Sishu Kendra (ASK), Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. She coordinates academic programs, including RCI-approved Diploma Courses in Special Education, and leads faculty training programs and parent workshops. She strongly focuses on inclusive education practices and skill development for educators and caregivers.
Legacy at NIEPID:
Sheilaja Rao’s tenure at NIEPID spanned over 30 years. During that time, she held multiple key positions, including Head of the Department of Special Education and Principal Coordinator for the ADIP Scheme.
