Participation in Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)

MIHE’s programmes for students with specific disabilities aim to provide a paradigm shift in the national education policy seeking to bridge an increasing gap between an undergraduate degree and employability. The CBCS provides an opportunity for the students to choose courses from the prescribed courses comprising core, elective and skill based courses. The courses can be evaluated under the grading system of University.

The main feature of the CBCS is to make undergraduate education student centric rather than system centric or teacher centric. For achieving these objectives, MIHE has been designing and a holistic syllabus for students with specific disabilities especially for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (PIDD).

Courses in above a programme are basically accommodated for the learners with IDD in three kinds: Core, Elective, and Foundation.

  1. Core Course: Compulsorily and a core requirement to complete the requirement of a programme.
  2. Elective Course: is a course, which can be chosen from a pool of papers. It may be Supportive to the discipline of study, providing an expanded scope, enabling an exposure to some other discipline/domain, nurturing student’s proficiency/skill.
  3. Foundation Course: for the Students with Specific Disability in Soft Skills to develop self esteem and independence and an understanding of the basic ethics and values required to live companionably with family and colleagues and to study for a certificate/diploma/Degree course of Think College programme. For the purpose of computation the Credit is calculated on basis of learning input under the following mechanism:

         i) 1 Credit = 30 hours duration of Theory/ Practical periods of classroom teaching

ii) 1 Credit = 30 hours of Self learning or Tutorial training

One Semester is for 6 Months and its is counted 100 College days @ 5 Hrs/day (300 Hrs for theory and practical learning of Core, Elective, and Foundation courses and 200 Hrs for Extra Curricular and functional training required to enhance activity participation of learners due to specific disability).

Basic Plan for the Course of Study in one Semester on regular mode

One Semester = 6 Months = 100 College days = 320 Hrs for theory and practical learning of Core, Elective, and Foundation courses + 200 Hrs for Extra Curricular and fictional training required to enhance activity participation of learners due to specific disability.
