In pursuing higher education, everyone deserves equal opportunities and access to learning. However, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) often face barriers that hinder their educational journey. At Manovikas Institute for Higher Education, we promote inclusivity and accessibility in higher education. That’s why we’re hosting a seminar on “Reasonable Accommodation for Persons with IDD in Inclusive Higher Education Institutions and Universities.” This section will explore why universities and colleges should join us in this important seminar.

Details of the Seminar: National Seminar on Reasonable Accommodation in Inclusive Higher Education Institutions and Universities, approved Continuing Rehabilitation Education by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), (A Statutory Body of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment) Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) Government of India. https://manovikasfamily.org/gyanshala/thinkcollege/

Legal Compliance:

Under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPD) Act 2016, it is mandated that educational institutions provide reasonable accommodations to persons with disabilities, including those with IDD. By participating in this seminar, universities and colleges can comprehensively understand their legal obligations under the RPD Act 2016 and ensure compliance with its provisions.

UGC Guidelines:

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued guidelines emphasising the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in higher education institutions. These guidelines stress the need for universities and colleges to create an enabling environment for students with disabilities, including reasonable accommodations and support services. This seminar will provide valuable insights into effectively implementing these UGC guidelines.

Equal Opportunity Cell:

Many universities and colleges have established Equal Opportunity Cells (EOCs) to address issues related to accessibility and inclusivity on campus. This seminar will equip EOC members and other stakeholders with the knowledge and tools necessary to enhance the effectiveness of these cells in promoting reasonable accommodation and supporting students with IDD.

Fostering Inclusivity:

Participating in our seminar allows universities and colleges to demonstrate their commitment to fostering inclusivity and diversity on campus. By proactively engaging in discussions and workshops on reasonable accommodation, institutions can create a more welcoming and supportive environment for students with IDD.

Networking and Collaboration:

Our seminar will provide a platform for networking and collaboration among universities, colleges, and other stakeholders in inclusive higher education. By joining the seminar, institutions can connect with peers, share best practices, and explore opportunities for partnership in advancing accessibility and inclusivity initiatives.
